The secret to ultra-efficient gardening? Aquaponics!
A growing method that is fast, organic, cheap to run, can be done in a small space with very little water? Yes please!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if your herb garden grew faster?
…Or if your vegetables grew at twice the speed?
How about your flowers? (You could present your wife with a new bunch every week!)
We live in a world that seems to move faster by the day, but there is one thing that always stays the same – our gardens. Why? Because nature can’t be rushed, and that’s beautiful.
However, if there were a method that promised to grow all of the above in half the time, take a lot less work and still be completely organic, would you be curious?
Aquaponics is a mixture of hydroponics (growing plants without soil) and aquaculture (fish farming).
With these two disciplines merged, they make quite the dream team. The fish waste becomes food for the plants, and the plants clean the water to be sent back to the fish. This circulatory water system means that an aquaponics system only requires 10% of the water needed for regular gardening – great in times of drought or restricted water supply.
It’s a little known fact that fish waste contains everything plants need in order to thrive – and this concentrated nutrition is the secret behind their super-fast growth.
It’s a fun hobby, but also a great way to feed your family cheaply and healthily. You can grow vegetables, salads, herbs, fruits and flowers all year round – without the seasonal restrictions that apply normally. Also, there is no danger of overcrowding the plants as the roots are not competing for nutrients in soil – so you can grow a huge amount in a very small space.
Once the system is set up (the only complicated bit), then there is very little work to do. No watering is required and no weeding – you can sit back, relax, and simply wait for your produce to grow grow grow!
That’s the beauty of aquaponics – it feels slow but it moves fast. So you get all the peace of normal gardening but with less bending over – it’s win win!
